Boker full-sized smatchet???

Just when I thought that I wasn't going to spend my money on anymore Boker knives! thanx a lot!

I looked for my Boker catalog and have been unable to find it. I think the retail is around $350-375. I saw it at the SHOT show. It is a very impressive knife. I liked that the handle slabs were Black Linen Micarta and attached with screws. this means I can take them off and slim them down to my taste. The scabbard is minimal but OK and well constructed. Not too bulky or heavy and the keeper strap has velcro that matches the back of the scabbard to keep it out of the way and uncut by the leaf shaped blade.

I have ordered two of them for my kits.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

ts

Here's some info I pasted from the skylands cutlery homepage :
SMATCHET - MODEL A-F 578 - THIS NEW MODEL WILL MAKE MANY OF YOU VERY HAPPY. BOKER IS PRODUCING A
LIMITED 1200 PIECE RUN OF A FULL SIZE SMATCHET. THIS MODEL WILL FEATURE A 10" BLADE OF 440C STEEL, BLACK
MICARTA HANDLES AND A CODURA SHEATH. EACH ONE PRODUCED WILL BE SERIAL NUMBERED. WE HAVE ORDERED A

Hopefully, this knife will be such a success that a regular production run will follow. The current retail price is just a little to much for me..

Take care,

Hmmn... I'd tend to agree with you. I was looking at adding a full-sized smatchet to complete my collection of Boker AF variants. But at this price, it'd be almost worth my while to get a custom job... Perhaps 'street price' will be significantly lower.

Cheers,
Tim

I remember seeing a full-size smatchet made by Al mar a few years ago. The price was also very high, the blade was mirror-polished stainless(probably 440C - too), a real looker. What about a working-ugly version in 1095C made by Ontario knives ? They already make a "boot"-sized model. If I recall it correctly, EDMF (Eight Dollar Mountain Foundry) also makes custom Smatchets at a very attractive price.

Take care,
Tobse !

Check out Dale Sandberg at Eight Dollar Mountain Foundry. You'll need to search for his web site but he made me a smatchet with an L6 blade and a cast on aluminum handlefor under $100.It aint the prettiest knife I own,but if you want a real user check him out.

Speaking of custom Smatchets, I looked into a nice one by Uwe Hoffman. It started at $800.

A production piece at ~$300 doesn't look so bad in comparison. I'll definitely consider the Boker.

I was checking out DiscountKnives.com.

Boker knives are discounted in the neighborhood of 37%. This would put the selling price of the Smatchet at $234.

MUST... have... Smatchet!

Let's see, if I sell my mini Smatchet for $50 and apply that to the price that Axel calculated... it will only cost me $184 for a full size one!
