Perhaps Boker's quality control has improved b/c I have had no issues with this knife. At 7:24 in the video I have taken the knife apart to show the inside. Let me know what you think.

One thing I forgot to mention in the review is the detent. When the blade is closed there is a little up and down movement but the knife does have good enough detent so that a good shake doesn't knock it loose.

Very good review about a truly original design. It's good that you take it apart and comment on the construction.
As an aside, I have the Haddock's smaller slip joint brother, the Cox. Splendid little thing that oozes character.

How has your N690 done over time?

Though I have no interest in this particular knife I have to comment on the quality of the review. Absolutely brilliant, wonderfully complete, I could not ask for more information and if I was in the market for the Haddock the review would make it an easy decision.

Looking forward to the next one.

Thank you for the kind words!

I have two or 3 knives with N690, and they all do well enough. Mind, my cutting requirements are relatively light (no batoning etc), and I have so many knives that I "underuse" most of them.

Nice review, thank you. I like Anso designs quite a bit though I only have one other Anso-designed knife, a Spyderco Rock Lobster. How does the knife open one-handed? You open the knife a time or two one-handed but don't comment on it.

The knife is easy to open with one hand (I hardly ever open with 2). You can't flick it open with your thumb like you can a thumb stud or spydie hole. It is possible to manipulate the bottom of the blade with your middle finger and do a wrist flick which is pretty fast. I haven't felt the need to ever open this blade fast because it is satisfying enough watching the blade come out slow.

Very nice review. What were some of the problems that this knife originally had?

This looks like it would be a good work knife as I like the blade profile and thickness. But if it isn't easily opened with one hand, even gloved, then it may not be a good choice after all. Could it be easily opened one-handed wearing a glove?

I just tried it with mechanix and then leather gloves and it opened up fine with one hand.

My Haddock, mentioned here 6/2010, is a lower s/n - in the 160 range. It's only fault was the wire edge it came with - unacceptable for such a pricey knife. I do like the Bohler steel - N690 is pretty good - close to a well heat treated S30V, just needing more frequent edge 'touch up' attention. Cleaned files on a 'Sharpmaker' makes short work of it. I bought the PryMate, Savannah, and Titan Defender LiteWeight because they use it - as well as my recent bargain, an Arno Bernard 'Wild Dog'. Great review!
