I recently got a Kalashnikov in a trade and I am very impressed by the knife. I am really surprised that I always overlooked this knife until I got one in hand. Now the only issue is that, since it is an auto, the only time I can carry it, is on my compound on base. I took a look at the manual version, which I was very glad to see they had, but I noticed that there is a different style blade on it. Are there any manual version of the Kalashnikov that do not have the "blood groove" on it?

Don't know about the rest of the world, but in the usa.....all ak 74 versions come as manual plunger/button lock versions without the scales milled to have a spring added. In other words they are all modified here by the dealers who sell them as autos. If you go to an online dealer who doesn't sell autos and has those knives in stock they are manuals. Non-auto.

Granted opening it will require a bit of a flick or two hands, but you get the plunger lock which I prefer to the liner and the better looking blade, imho.

Also to note you can get any of the converted auto versions and remove the spring and turn them back into a manual opener. Not sure why anyone would want to spend the extra money for the milling of the scale and spring and turn it back into a manual knife, but if one wanted the dagger blade version.....I guess it makes sense. Hope that helped?

Btw, I got three version of the auto ones. Carry them often and I consider these autos the best bang for the buck for a side opening auto.

Actually that does help a lot. I don't think I want to "undo" the mod to the one I have. Though, from what you have said, I can just order another one with the button lock and use that as my non auto. I appreciate the help.
