Has anyone used the boker Damascus olive set of kitchen knives (seen here http://www.boker.de/us/kitchen-knife/boker/damascus-olive/130445SET.html)

if so, how good are they?

I am thinking about getting theses or a set of Shun kaji, but dont know which, i am leaning towards the bokers, because of styling and the boker that i have (pocket knife) and the knowledge that they make good straight razors
though i know that they shun knives are good (My mother has some)

anyways, i am jut looking for information

any help would be appreciated

you don't need all those knives. Get a good chefs knife, paring knife and bread knife (slicer). save yourself some money...

the knives look ok, i cant speak about the quality but I can say I know a lot of people who don't like that shape for knife handles.

TBH I would go with the Shun if you are only considering those two sets

well i basically get a free set from my parents as a graduation gift (i like to cook)
funny thing is, we have a set a little bigger than that in the shun and we use all but the cleaver in the set (which gets used, but rarely)

anyways, i have always liked that design for the handles (feel comfortable to me), same with the Shun Kaji.

as i said earlier, i am leaning toward the bokers for looks right now, as i know Boker by reputation and shun by use, i will get the bokers actually, if i can confirm they are good knives from someone who has used them

I agree you dont need all thoses knives. Love the olive handels . Value the design but I think for 1300$ you need to do more research. You will find on these very pages amazing custom knives that will fit your needs.

Check out the Miyabi Birchwood series offered by Sur la Table. SG2 is a much better steel than VG10.

As said earlier, you don't need all those knives - just three: a chef's, a paring and a serrated bread knife.

sure, if you have them you CAN use them...but you don't NEED them. I spend 8 hours everyday working in a kitchen and I have the three knives I mentioned before...i don't need any others.

Save your parents some money and just get what you NEED. If you like the Boker knives, just get the three, not the whole set.

Bokers Olive damascus are great knives, i think knifecenter has the set for more like 900$. I agree a guy does not need that many kitchen knives, that is why i am saving for the Boker Superior chefs knife, 5 bar twisted dam. Cheapest i found for the 1 knife is 1600. Boker makes great kitchen knives, you wont be disappointed with any.

i cant talk my parents into getting just 3 (as if i do that, i will still cost them the same amount, and yes, i did find it for 850 somewhere). and as for having more than three, whenever I cook, i like completely different knives for meat, veggies, bread, ect....

Take your 1300 and find a maker with experience making these knives and get a few made for that price. I would recommend Stephen Fowler for a start or Rader etc.
