Boker knife history question

I inherited my Grandfather's Boker pocket knife. It has Boker USA on one side of the large blade (there are two blades) and 81122 on the other side. Does anyone know if the 81122 is the date of manufacture, as in 8/22/1922, or is it a serial number?
