I recently purchased the Boker Kukri folding knife. Here's a link http://www.boker.de/us/pocket-knife/magnum/tactical-knife/01MB511.html

I saw how amazing it looked and had to have it. Upon receiving it, I noticed that it can quite easily be opened with the flick of the wrist. My main concern is that it doesn't have a very noticeable mechanism that prevents it from opening. I'm not very knife savy, and it may have a mechanism that I don't know about. I've read the penal code 653k multiple times and this is what it says about exempting blades that can be flicked open: "Switchblade knife" does not include a knife that opens with one hand utilizing thumb pressure applied solely to the blade of the knife or a thumb stud attached to the blade, provided that the knife has a detent or other mechanism that provides resistance that must be overcome in opening the blade, or that biases the blade back toward its closed position.. The blade does seem to have a slight resistance to opening, but it is very slight.

I was wondering if anybody owned the knife or knows anything about it that could help me out. It's a really cool knife, and I'd hate to have to shelve it. Sorry if there is a better place for this. Thank you for your time.

I think if it has a slight resistance lke you stated, then its good to carry and not considered illegal in calfornia, cops in cali don't check how easily they could flick open your pocket knife like nyc cops do....you should talk to your local PD and ask them if its legal just in case though.

My understanding of the Cali law is that is solely aimed at true switchblades and butterfly knives. The purpose of the legislation's new wording about "detent" and whatnot is specifically to emphasize that all other folding knives were never intended to be covered by this law. If it resists open at all, it has a bias towards closure. Otherwise it would just fall open if you held it blade-side down under gravity alone.
