I just got a magazine from boker today. I was wondering aobt some of the knives in it. They are the magnum and boker ones. They're listed as only about 16 dollars each and some of them are only advertised as stainless steel others 440 (doesn't say a b or c) or 420.

Now I know you get what you pay for, but are these knives worth it? They sure look nice.

They are pretty nice and a great deal for the money. They are Chinese made knives distributed by Boker. If you don't mind that they are made in mainland China, you should be very happy with them.

where knives are made has no influence on me if they're good. Can you recommend any retailers?

When you see a steel identified as simply 440, you can be pretty sure it's 440A. If it were any better, they would say so.

Magnum used to be Boker's stepchild. They owned the operation, but didn't put the Boker name anywhere on the packaging, let alone the knife. Lately they've acknowledged them as Boker Magnum, like the Benchmade Red Class, their own knives but made overseas.

Boker themselves made in Germany are generally good knives and they also own Arbolito in Argentina, where they produce decent knives more economically.

Boker recently picked up a design by Chad Los Banos (Daywalker) called the Subcom folder. They produced it as a Boker Magnum in 420J2, which is barely cutlery grade steel, but the blade is thin and evidently, it worked pretty well and was inexpensive.

The design was too good for the steel though and the enthusiastic reception it got convinced them to do it over as a Boker Plus in AUS-8. VERY nice. I carry mine constantly ...

They have a few premium lines now: Boker Plus, Cinch, Double Tree (Boker itself is known as Tree Brand from its iconic tree logo).

I had a couple and sold them. They were both auto and worked great. I decided to get a couple more with Tanto blades. These are both flick knives. Does anyone know if they are pre-drilled for a spring? If they are, what size do they take? They work something like an Axis lock without the spring. They are actually pretty nice for the money the way they are.

I have two that I use as beater/work knives. They are both slipjoints with red bone handles -- a 4" sowbelly stockman and a 4" congress. I got them both on ebay for about $12 apiece.

yeah, nice… but awfully small!
I thought it's smth of kind card knives (Spydecard, SOG Access etc)
nooo, it's even smaller… very solid made, even Magnum one.

Yes. Very convenient. Enough blade for small tasks, cutting rope or cardboard or trimming plants. The design locks into my hand, though, so the size isn't the disadvantage that a narrower handle would show.

The problem with most small knives is that they only give a two or three-finger grip. This one locks into my whole fist.
