The BOKER PLUS Yurco PC/EDC Collaboration Knife
Hello Everyone,
It has been a while, but I have been meaning to get this out to you guys as soon as possible.
Another review of a Mickey Yurco design. A collaboration with Boker Plus. I was really pleased with how Boker ran with this design. It came well made, with everything you need, and at an excellent
street price of $50-$60USD.
The knife is based around Mickey's Politically Correct Everyday Carry PC/EDC concept. As a long time Deputy Sheriff and Martial artist he has an excellent vision of how to design a knife that is
balanced for everyday use and Self Defense in a pinch.
(All thumbnail photos can be enlarged by clicking.)
Boker Presents the knife in a suprisingly nice box which is magnetically sealed. Not a bad touch.
Open it up and this is how it is appears to you...
As you can see it comes with a Large Tek-Lok and Kydex sheath Which offers just about every mounting option you can want. I love the Tek-Lok concept. You will also appreciate the fact that they
included Phillips head screws as a mounting solution. It is much easier to find a phillips screwdriver in a pinch than a #10 Torx bit driver ;-)

Three sets of hardware included. The Large Tek-Lok has a bail device to prevent the accidental unlatching of the clip once it is secured. The removable wedges help accommodate various belt widths.

Here you can see one of my co-workers mounting the blade on his reaction side. This allows for a reaction side reverse grip draw and weapon side thumbs up grip draw.
This allows him to draw regardless of what hand may be tied up at the moment. You can also see that a complete and full grip can be made on the handle before it is drawn. No part of the sheath interferes. The blade truly comes out ready to go to work.

The Blade was intentionally designed to be less than 3 inches in length to accommodate a wide variety of state, federal, and global laws on length. Mickey claims you are more likely to find yourself in a cramped situation such as between cars or in a crowded social scene when you encounter a self defense situation rather than in a wide open Dojo scenario. So a long blade is not really an advantage.
The blade and sheath are designed to allow an immediate slashing motion right off the draw which can be followed up by a downward stabbing motion even theough the back edge of the blade is not
sharpened.

Regardless of what doctrine you follow, you will be able to lock in the perfect grip. The distance between the pins on the G10 handle seem to allow 3 fingers in. The potrusion below the third
wedge between the 3rd and 4th finger. Even edge forward doctrine is a go...

Some less than lethal options are available such as trapping or pinching using the back edges and file work...

The Tek-Lok allows for various gear mounting options such as molle gear...

The G10 handle seems to be alternating Grey and Black. It's Matte finish gives it an unassuming appearance and seems to blend well with a variety of gear/clothes.
The usual suspects will see me coming from 100 miles away, but to the average joe, the Yurco design stays true to is "fly below the radar" persona. Blade material is a Mickey approved 440C Stainless.

A popular mounting solution for police and military is on the Safariland 6004 or Blackhawk! Serpa. The Tek-Lok approves of this and mounts w/o incident allowing a quick draw in forward or reverse
grip and puts the blade right in your palm with your hands casually at your side. I happen to be a huge fan of this and it blends right into the kydex holster, which could help reduce it's seeming
availability to anyone who would potentially try to take it.

It isn't quite up to the refinement and quality of a true Mickey Yurco custom, however comparing a factory blade to a blood sweat and tears custom is of course unfair. At roughly 1/3 the price of a real deal Mickey Yurco custom, this could be an excellent option for those aspiring to own an original but haven't come across one yet. Here is a quick comparison of the Boker and a similar Mickey Yurco custom...
A straight blade layer to the EDC, and might I say a welcome one!
