Boker Plus "B@T Knife?"

Has anyone heard of this knife here? http://www.boker.de/us/pocket-knife/boker-plus/tactical-knife/01BO430.html
I know Bokers aren't top notch, but they do get discounted, and I think this one could be a decent value. It must be new, though, I can't find it anywhere. Seems like a possible competitor to the Byrd Crossbill, but with more of a Spyderco Military shape handle

Bokers _are_ "top notch".

Boker Pluses are okay.

The discount comes from the Pluses being made in China. Boker Tree Brand are made in Germany and are nicer.

Where did you get the impression that Böker products are "not top notch"?

Ontopic: all Böker Plus knives I've handled so far had excellent build quality and value. Feel free to test them out.

i have one, its a rather hand filling, thick g10 handled knife. i bought it because at the price, why not, and was surprised at the quality. its decent. yea its a different blade shape, but its not that hard to sharpen.

the boker plus jim burke mini ressurection and also the boker plus exseliber line are more incredible values.

i was thinking about getting one a while back but didnt because the sharpening would be a pain in the ass, nice knife though

Boker's catalog and the Boker website explain some of the differences between the Boker, "Boker Plus" and Magnum designations. They are worth taking the time to look at. The latter are exclusively made in Asia, the Magnum line that is.

The Tree Brand is a part of the Boker line. Most of these have been produced in Argentina for decades now. Very good knives.

You can also find out more about these knives at the Boker sub forum of this site.

A Boker rep shows up regularly. They are glad to answer specifics.

There was a guy on here a while ago that was posting the custom versions/ design source of that knife, well before Boker put out this production version. The custom version wasn't my cup of tea, but it was beautifully made, with very impressive grinds.

The maker and the poster were both Japanese, IIRC. I wish I could think of the right search terms. My old mind may be playing tricks on me. That new Boker is obviously based on the knife that was posted previously, but Boker says the designer is South African. Hmm.

I think Boker had a contest for knifemakers and whoever submitted the most unique design would be granted a contract for Boker to add them to their Plus line of knives. A South African knifemaker won with the Bat Man design folder we are discussing here. I have one and for the money it is well made. My only gripe is that one of the screws in my pocket clip is stripped so removal is a pain. Other than that it is a fairly large and well made folder for the money.

The designers of the B@t-Man knife are South African, Kevin and Heather Harvey of "Heavin Forge". They maintain that the concept of the knife, the grind anyway, came to Kevin in a dream after attending a self defense class. The knife is based on the Karambit shape it is the grind of the blade that is different. They tell this story here...

It's possible of course that someone else came up with a similar grind earlier. There ain't alot new in blade grinds.

I really like some of Boker's new products for this year. This is not one of them. I wouldn't take it for free. Don't see any possible practical use for it.

Boker does have a forum here......you're likely to get more answers there.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I looked into it a little more and found that retailers all seem to be calling it the "batman," and that they're readily available under that name. And yes, I did confuse Böker with Böker Plus, thanks for clearing that up. I had heard here that Böker Plus's aren't the highest quality, and handling a friend's Böker Plus confirmed that. Looks like I'll have to take a look at Böker's standard lineup and find a place to look at one in person.
