Ok, let me start by stating: I love Boker knives. I have many, and I mean 20+ easily. Most are Boker Plus, and I get that they are not to the standard of the Solingen Boker knives, but they're more in my range of affordability.
The blades always top notch. Very seldom do I ever need to touch up a new knife to get it shaving sharp, as they almost always are. When I do, it's as simple as 1 or 2 passes through my Worksharp with the stropping belt, and all is good. No problem there.
My issue, whish I would say affects at least half of my collection, is the scales being poorly aligned. Simple fit and finish. Case in point, I received from the man in brown today, a Fitz Stag fixed blade. Beautiful stag, sharp as ever, great packaging, but the scales on one side are a good 1/4" shorter at the butt of the knife than the other. I don't pick over my knives for flaws, but that one hit me between the eyes it was so obvious. That's the similar issue with my Gent's scalpel, a black lockback folder, and others.
I buy knives from multiple mid rancge to low range high end brands. About half of which are made overseas in Asia. No problem, as I understand the QC end is Supervised and held to the same standard as anything from the US. BUT, something is regularly an issue with my Bokers.
I usually just get a fine piece of sandpaper and fix overhang issue with scales. I don't mind, and don't like to make a fuss over slight issues ONCE IN A WHILE, but when it's a regular occurance, I have to say WTF?
Am I just the unlucky one here, being too picky about basic QC issues, or are there others out there noticing the same thing?
For the record, the Fitz Stag is a great knife. It will be spending plenty of time on my hip. But the scales, really?
