I got one of these (not an auto) and can't unlock it(normally). The push button doesn't go far enough down into the recess to free the blade.
1.There is a tapered cone that holds the blade locked. It recesses into the clip side handle when I push button, but not enough to release the blade.
2. I used a rounded piece of plastic to depress the button far enough release the blade, but that action causes the button to go too far into the handle and get hung up.
3. I observed the blade sits flush against the clip side handle, (shouldn't there be a washer to hold the blade away from the handle, thereby giving a space???? Either that or a taller button, so I can push the button farther down???

There is no way this is going to work as is. I've never had problems with Tiwan knives before.
Any thoughts?

Can't tell what is wrong, but send it in and I'll take care of it for you.

Well I'm at a position of i just don't know what i don't know. I would like someone who has a button lock to tell me how it's suppose look.

To me, from what you described, the button or the recess is not lining up right, causing it to not press in enough. The button is not raised up as a safety feature, since if it was more proud, it would be easier to press and release accidently.

One question, does the button stick when you are pressing it, or does it catch when you release it?

It sticks anytime i depress it, wheather it's open or closed. The tapered cone simply doesn't recess enough, so by "over pushing" the button with a stick, it finally releases.:(

*In the meantime I have a frend who has automatics, I got a couple of extra button pieces of various sizes. Found one with more "reach", now it works great. No it doesn't stick out too much so as to open by accident.

**It seems the factory fitted the wrong button piece here, don't know?

***Oh, this is a nice knife by the way, I like the nice flat grind, the AUS8 is quite sharp. Funny how a lock that you can't operate tends to kill the thrill:eek:.
