For a while now I have been wanting a small fixed blade that I could carry as an edc. Then the other day I spotted the Boker Plus Bulldog, a Tom Krein design, which is advertised as his first full sized fixed blade for Boker. Blade is 3 1/2", and handle is 5". This sounds about right for an easy carry edc fixed blade. Don't really know the quality of Boker Plus's kydex sheaths, if it is kydex, but it seems a kydex sheath would be the way to go for an edc. But the main thing that made me really sit up and notice this knife was the pronounced clip point it has, and I like the curved handle. Far as steel goes I have always been able to keep a good edge on Boker's 440C and have no problems with getting this steel.

Here are some pics I grabbed from google images;

So how about it fixed blade edcer's, is this a good sized knife to carry? too big/long? what would be a good size to carry?

Everybody's body and dress is different, but I do fine with anything 6.5 inches or less. 7 is ok but I notice. 8 is too much to comfortably conceal in regular working clothes for me but your mileage may vary. I am a good sized guy but I think anyone could conceal 5", that's hip pocket size.

What method of carry are you going for/positioning? Seems like a good candidate for horizontal carry, only point I would see to bring up is the handle being a bit long/wide if you went vertical/might print. Then again I prefer a slimline carry.

I carry FBs every day as my normal cutters now, but I don't go over 7" OAL. Anything more than that is too hard to conceal in light clothes and too uncomfortable / always needing adjustment when sitting, driving, etc. I also prefer broken-in leather to kydex or any kind of fairly rigid sheath.

As far as the Krein/Boker collabs, I do like their looks and feel. I handled a Pocket Bowie at NGK a while back and it was a really nice little FB. And I still like well done 440C... nothing at all wrong with it.

I own a Krein PSK. It's a nifty knife. Personally, I'd recommend that size over this one. I hear the Boker version of the PSK is pretty decent too. I have a kydex sheath with a tek lock on mine, and can confirm it can be a pain to carry. I've learned back side carry is the most convenient. Good luck in your decision.

Like to try it but can't find any yet. Must be a 2014 release. Very nice looking blade.

Thanks for the responses and suggestions. I thought that 8 1/2" oal might be pushing it. My thought about using kydex was that it could be canted, or maybe completely horizontal, for easier carry. I have looked at the Boker PSK several times but never pulled the trigger on one. If I find that I like carrying a fb and can do so comfortably and unobtrusively then I might like to get a custom Krein down the road.

But for now I think I will try the PSK, but I still have to get the Bulldog, if only for that clip point blade! Trentu, it is a 2014 release but KCI has them in stock.

I've found that carrying a FB every day depends as much or more on the sheath as the knife. If you find a knife that works for you, there are options for the sheath. Leather sheaths can be carried at an angle or horizontally, dropped in a pocket, or worn IWB if you want. And they can be made specifically for your knife by several people here on BF.

I carry my Essential on my left side at about 10:00 slanted forward in the factory leather sheath. Works very well, esp. since my shirts almost always cover my waistband. Nobody sees it and I always "forget" to button the shirt button just above my waistband so it's always readily available, even bending over or squatting down between stacks of boxes.

So I have the PSK ordered and plan to try it as an edc. I will wear it in a horizontal position, and on the left side at the 10:00 you mention Dale. With the cost being minimal if I don't like carrying it as an edc, I will still have a nice knife.

Thats a sturdy good looking knife.
I do so like that Bowie look.
Id say, thats a very convenient size to EDC.

Did you at any point consider the full tang Spyderco Street Beat (smaller of the two Spydie-Perrin Bowies and OAL 7.188" VG10)?

Its a personal favourite of mine hence my quesion.

I bough the 'original' slightly bigger Spydie-Perrin Street Bowie (OAL 9.38" VG10) and its a faaantastic knife.
Clearly a well though out knife. One of the earliest collabs, that Spydie did with 'outside' designers and IMO a home run.
I dont know, if it sold well, as I dont see it mentioned much, but Im really impressed.More than ample blade and the Kraton practically keeps the handle glued to your hand, should you so desire. A generous choil was the clincher for me.
I of course realize Perrin's background and his ideas behind the knife, but belive that the Street Bowie would work for various other applications about the house, work, camp, what ever.

Personally, I EDC a small folder and not a FB. I wont (cant) EDC a FB, but the smallest practical FB, that I would consider in my current 'inventory,' were circumstances different, would be my MISSION MPU-TI PE.

Ive used the little knife A LOT! With a titanium line cutter for company it sits in my kayaking vest and ha been with me on many kayaking trips.
Being titanium and thus impervious to the elements, it sits permanently in the rig and merely gets hosed with fresh water along with the vest after each outing.
It has zipped through many a deer as well, as I find myself often bringing it along in lieu of much bigger knives.
It has managed several deer in one outing without goind dull on me.

It seems nobody told it, that titanium is totally useless for any and all applications, that it will dull within minutes of use and never be able to be sharpened.

Hush, not so loud - dont tell it or you'll jinx it!!:D
