I've been looking at the Boker Plus slippies, the peanut and fat belly trapper in particular. They look nice and come with carbon steel blades. Anyone have any experience with these? A sales website has them for less than $12, and I'm wondering if they would be worth bothering with. I realize that in most cases, you get what you pay for, but sometimes you find an unexpected gem. Any thoughts are appreciated.

If someone has some information to share they will post. Please be patient or attempt to find the information you seek elsewhere.

At $12.00 it won't hurt much to take a chance.
I don't have experience with the Bokers but I do have a Russell that I have been told was made by Boker but that could be bad info. I have been very happy with my knife so far. The blades take a mean edge and seem to retain it pretty well. The fit and finish was good but not top of the line.

I just got a Boker peanut, because I've had some good experiences with Boker in the past. I didn't realize that it was going to be a Boker Plus, but it is. It was only $9.99 plus $6.00 shipping. It was made in China.

The knife is beautiful. Seems very well made. It has jigged brown bone scales, "440 stainless" blades, and threaded bolsters. The blades seem very cleanly ground, but ... almost all of the machined angles and edges are slightly rounded. Just slightly, and not rounded at all on the contact face between the blade and the spring. No blade wobble. Long pulls on both blades.

Angles of the cutting edges are too steep to suit me, so it will be getting reground, either on the sharpening belt or on a stone. But it is very reasonably sharp, and the edges were buffed after grinding, too.

The dye job on the bone seems to be fine, but I think that there was a bit extra dye or some buffing compound left on the jigged section of the bone, because it started to rub off. I took a rag and rubbed the heck out of both sides, and it brought out beautiful varied shades of dye, the high points being thinner/lighter than the low points.

All in all, it seems quite good. I just got it, so I haven't done much cutting with it, especially considering that I don't like the edges, but it should serve well.
