I'm looking for a nice pocket knife that is very inexpensive. I found both the Boker Power Trooper and the Urban Tank models for under $20. Does anyone know much about these knives, or Boker in general? Any advice is appreciated.

Urban Tank

Power Trooper

Those are made by magnum, owned by Boker. I think most come from China. I`m not familiar with that particular knife model, But I have a bunch of Magnums, and I am impressed with the quality, for the price.

I see you're following up on your previous thread .

Boker is in general a pretty good brand.
The magnum series groups their made in Taiwan (or China) entry level knives. Usually quite ok FOR THE PRICE.
Of the two I would take the Power Trooper because of the grippy G10 handles and the lower weight. If you'd buy it, check the liner lock, the one on one of my magnums doesn't grip so well.
However, I repeat my original recommendation, I'd save a bit more towards the Boker M-Type from their Boker Plus series: also made in Taiwan, but on a higher quality level (obvious when using). Nice big handle, an excellent lock and thin easy to carry profile. This knife is pretty cheap when bought from ebay dealers.
Or for the same price I do think that the big Opinel 12 is a great alternative. A fierce cutter with a strong blade.

Yes, this is just a follow-up from my other post, because when I bumped that one before, nobody saw what I was asking at the end.

Also good in the same price range are the Ka-Bar Doziers and the Ontario Rat-1 folder, though none of these have the same look as the Bokers referenced by the OP. Another great knife at a fairly low price point (around $40) is the Benchmade Monochrome. It locks up really solidly, looks good, and cuts great. Also consider the Byrd line from Spyderco. All of these are made in Taiwan or China, but all come highly recommended. I can speak personally for the quality of the BMMC and the Byrd knives.

Hi,

the design of both knives is nice but 440 stainless steel = 440A = not enough carbon in the steel to hold a decent edge !

just my 2 cent

That's true, I forgot to mention that. If it doesn't say 440C, then it's probbly 440A which is old fashioned. The M-type that I recommended uses 440C. These days 440C (which was high end up until some 10 years ago) and the asian more or less equivalent AUS-8 are considered as reasonable basic blade materials.
