Does anybody own the Jim Wegner-designed folder from Boker? I read a review in Tactical Knives and might have seen a thing or two on the forms. Is it a viable self defense option, and would its deployment and use be effective and secure? Is the long strong, and is the blade an efficient cutter? Despite the recurve/tanto profile, does it have any EDC capabilities? Any input/info would be appreciated! Thanks.

God bless you, America, and our men and women overseas.

This was discussed in an earlier thread - consensus was not so good. Search will pull it up.

It seems merchandisers push gimmicks for the SD knife market, as the less than professionally trained are often misled by the hype. Those in the know realize a knife is a last resort to many other responses, so prefer one that is a good working tool, first and foremost.

Training is the key to any SD use, and a thorough grounding in bare hand combatives is the start.

I have one because for some reason I really like the blade shape. I have been EDCing it until a couple of days ago. I got mine on sale at SMKW. I actually like it a lot. The blade is chisel ground, which I don't normally like, but it came shaving sharp and has remained that way for the 3-4 months that I have had it (I have the plain edge). The lock seems quite strong, the blade locks up with a very authoritative clunk. Normally I don't like finger grooves, but these ones fit my big hands. It feeels very solid in hand, although you can hit your fingernail on the plastic and it sounds somewhat cheap. It is fully lined and actually does feel very solid, just that kind of hollow sound is weird.

I was actually carrying it in the pocket of my shorts the other night, I was coming out of a hospital about 1am (family member admitted) and I was talking on a cell phone to let another family member know the condition of the one in the hospital. I was walking across a very poorly lit parking lot and a guy pops out of the bushes at the edge of the lot and heads for me. I grabbed the Boker and started pulling and pulling and pulling- the damn pocket clip was so tight that I gave myself a damn wedgie before I got the knife out but the click of it opening sent the guy running the other way.

The knife came with a little spanner to change out the glass breaker, so I'm not carrying it until I can find where I put the box and loosen up the clip a little.

So I like it and I feel it was worth what I paid.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I picked up one of these very cheap on ebay. I was curious. I sold the knife very shortly after i got it. But you asked about build and carrying quality not personal taste. So i will tell you the lock seemed very strong the blade was very sharp and the handle felt very secure in the hand. I could easily carry it edc. I just did not care for the look of the thing. For the money you can get them for I believe it is a solid knife.
