I've never owned a Boker pocketknife, but have heard they're good quality. In particular, I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with the "Return of the Red Shield" pocketknife series, especially the 4" stockman. Also, is the "high carbon stainless steel" actually 440C?

Thanks for any info.

Boker has usually specifically identified blades as '440C' in knives actually using it, as it's something of an upgrade. Otherwise, if the blade isn't ID'd as 440C, they're probably using something akin to 4116, 420HC, 440A or maybe something similar to the German steel used by Victorinox (X50CrMoV). The 'high carbon stainless' description is usually applied by many makers to run-of-the-mill steels as above, with ~0.4-0.6% carbon content (compare to 440C, with up to 1.2% carbon).

Thanks for the replies.

I suspected the steel wouldn't be 440C; when it is, companies will come out and say it with pride. Also, the handles are black jigged Delrin. I imagine it's Boker's equivalent of Case's "as ground" pocketknife series.
