Boker service for an Australian when bought from US dealer

i have contacted Boker via the online form at bokerUSA asking some service related questions for a new BK-112007.

it was recommended to me to contact Boker via the boker.de site instead, unfortunately there was no selection for Australia on their contact form. i pasted my same info/questions in the form to roll the dice but it feels like a dead end.

any ideas? there are some quality standards points i want clarified before submitting my warranty registration and i also need to know where to send the card given that i am an Australian who bought from a US dealer.

thanks for any comments.

Welcome to the forum.
I was the one who answered your email. As I stated, we cannot help you with any warranty work, although I agree that there are some definite issues with it.
I cannot ship outside of the US and Canada. Even for Mexico, we usually use a
contact in Texas. In this case, Germany should help you. If you do not get an answer, email me again, and I will try to find a vendor in Australia who might be able to assist you.

Thanks Terry, I did get your second email.

I have had a reply from Germany and have some answers.

My 3 questions were:

1. Spots/Round blemishes on bolsters.
A. Clean off this 'oxidation' from beneath the nickel silver plating with a "detergent for silverware"

---

2. De-laminating scales. (very slightly and 'one side' only, ie. both scales at the blade opening side. the back side has both scales very closely fitted)
A. -

---

3. One scale chipped. (Metric: 6mm long and 1mm wide - Imperial: 1/4in x 1/16in)
A. -

---

Incidentally; How old is this model? I asked in my reply about this because I wonder how often the blemishes will re-appear and need to be cleaned again. (the knife will not be used if I can get it repaired to mint condition)

I would clean it with Flitz metal polish. I couldn't tell you how often, as that depends on environmental conditions.

This one I would email them again, and say you are requesting warranty work, as the handles should not be separating from the frame.

Same as the answer for #2, tell them you are requesting warranty service.

I don't know the age, we have made this model for many years, and still make it to this day.
My answers are in red in your quoted post.

i've had further info after sending another message. my 2nd and 3rd questions were answered together.

apparently Buffalo Horn is "tricky to work with", and "gaps do occur" along with scratches and minor stuff that passes through the quality inspection. (i haven't mentioned these tiny things, i expect imperfections)

i am told that the scales will "stay as is" and to not be concerned as they will not fall off. that, of course, is the concern.

---

since then i have emailed again, summary below:

* i gently attempted removal of one of the bolster 'rust circles'. big improvement but it is still visible. i've tried this recommendation but i will not go further until i have an outcome about the other problems.

* NEW INFO; in addition to the original complaints one of the scales can be seen opening and closing the gap (springy?) when pinched between the fingers. could this be that the scale is too long for the handle? time and that extra length could explain the separation.

i have now put forward that i return this for a replacement.

---

thanks again Terry for your input.

to anyone reading this - this _is_ a knife of good design and is made of very good materials. the locking action and many other mechanical points of interest are of high quality. i really want a good example of one in my collection!

I'm not sure what your abbreviations mean, but when I get to work on Monday, I will look up a contact in Australia who should help you.

the abbreviations are all variations on the terms Return Merchandise Authority, Return To Manufacturer etc.

i thought that since i was already conversing with Boker that I wouldn't end up having to start communicating the situation all over again with the place I bought it from. on the other hand it is reasonable that Boker want to know that I hadn't bought it as a reject or damaged stock.

i am apprehensive now to send the knife to Boker (through my supplier) because the Boker rep seems to think the faults i point out are 'normal'. i offered photos but they didn't say to send them. sounds like i could end up sending it on a round the world wild goose chase.

thanks again for your help Terry. i'm not sure how Highland Sports will fit into this, what do i ask of them?
