I just got the Spring A.G. Russell catalog. On the cover is an assortment of stag handled Bokers with 440C blades. Anybody have any experience with Boker's 440C?

Paul,

I just got my catalog to and I think it said the Boker I was looking at was 440A. That was on the neat looking stag fixed blade. I was wondering what type of steal that is. I did not look that close at the folders, they very well could have been 440C.

I have a Boker stag trapper that I got about 1986. The 440C is pretty good, the only knife I have ever done a direct comparison test with was a Puma stockman that I got in 1984, the Puma held its edge better. But for a 440C blade I would rate the Boker about typical for that steel. That was a while ago, hopefully Boker has the same or better heat treat now. The Boker slipjoints that I have purchased over the years have all been very well made, great fit and finish.
