I was very intrigued by the design when it debuted, but was turned away by the steel. They recently became available in AUS-8, which is acceptable, especially in a small folder like this, so I jumped on it.

I just received it today, and I am way more impressed than I expected to be. This thing is a little tank, and the fit and finish is superb, even by $100+ folder standards. My only complaint was that the clip was too tight, which I fixed promptly with a T-6.

Some things that impressed me:

- All Torx screw construction including pocket clip
- A nested liner on the FRN side ala Hinderer XM-18
- Excellent framelock lock-up with absolutely no blade play
- G-10 like texturing on the FRN that makes you forget it's FRN
- Full flat grind
- Very thin profile
- Blade centered, blade not making contact with anything while closed, and lanyard hole clear of blade
- Excellent ergos
- Sharp out of the box
- Priced at about $30

If you like small, tough folders, don't overlook this one. It has better F&F than about 80% of the knives I've purchased, and the design is really excellent.

I'll post some pictures up later. It's a very good looking folder.

I'd like to know from people who have one, how do you feel about the plastic thumb studs? Do they feel like they are built to withstand and endure?

Thanks for the heads up on the switch to AUS-8, J85909266. I love small, sturdy folders and really liked the design of the SubCom from the first time I saw it but was also put off by the 420J2 blade. Now that it's being made with a decent steel I'll definitely order one.

They have no movement in them and feel very sturdy. They were a concern for me as well.

My favorite part of them is that they are design submitted to boker by a fellow USN/Bladeforums member. VERY COOL. i always like to see other forumites realize success. The member is DAYWALKER for those interested. I wish him the best in his endeavors.

I've been carrying one since they were released, and it has been riding on my key chain for who knows how long at this point. That thumb stud is the last thing you need to worry about. It's not going anywhere.

Great little knife! I got one in Aus8 about a month ago and It have taken the place of my old Cricket (I love both but I have to test the newcomer :))

The fit and finish is great, solid lockup and no bladeplay at all. The fat blade profile makes it a good slicer and the ergos great for SD (no one will get it from your hand without getting cut).

I don't like the plastic thumstuds but they seem to be ready for lots of punishment. I recomend this knife for anyone who's looking for a small and affordable one.

The wife just gave me a Subcom for my birthday, along with a Case red jigged bone trapper. The trapper went into my collection, the Boker into my watch pocket after I made a lanyard for it. I had seen them in magazines, but handling this one was better than I expected it to be. Nice to have another EDC to put in rotation.

Thanks,
Dave

Magnum is part of Boker for their low end/cheaper knives. Since the Subcom is GREAT (yeah, I love it too) and I'm sure they have sold a lot, Boker decided to move it to the Boker Plus line, a line between Magnum (Lowest) and Boker (Highest).

The knives are "the same", they improve them a little in the new versions but are basically the same.

for those who care: subcoms are also available with a rescue and a wharncliffe blade now.

original pictures postet by Chad on USN. (hope that´s ok with you, Chad;) . thank you)

and a 440C version is due to be released ? according to Sept Blades magazine. It's retai will be 60$, so I figure 40-45$. I'll buy it when it comes available.

I'm glad to see Chad having success. In reading his posts I get the impression he's a decent, positive and down to earth talent. The kind of person that makes their own breaks. Salute, Chad! Joe

Sorry to nitpick, but the XM-18 doesn't have a nested liner. A nested liner is when the liner is sort of "inlayed" into the scale (like on the lock-side of the Spyderco Military). The XM-18 just has a liner on the non-lock side instead of a pure slab of G-10 (which is not a bad thing). It isn't nested, and it being nested wouldn't be an advantage.

Don't you think this is a little heavy for keychain carry? I have one, but it seems to heavy for that.

i all most cut myself trying to open it; maybe just a little over hyped. also cut some cardboard today, and it got dull alittle faster than expected. plus a bit un-comfy it i have to cut much

Just took delivery of the aus8 model. Well just to friggin small for me. I don't know if my hands are just to big or what but well just don't like it at all. So it will go in the box in my sock drawer never to be heard from again. What I would like to see is this knive grown up. 5" handles in the same config. with a 4" blade of nice steel like ats34 and also in the same blade shape. Now then I just might be in knife heaven. Keep the blade thin too and you would have a good walking and talking edc for the street and for the woods. keepem sharp

i all most cut myself trying to open it;

Indeed, took a a few days to get used to the small size and my thumb and a few fingers saw some band aid time. That said, once I got used to it, it's working out fine. FWIW it is definitely sharp out of the box!
