Hi all.....I have used Glock 81 for camping, used Eickhorn KM2000 for camping and all stood very good in their respective tasks. Now I want to try another knife and got Boker Vox Rold in D2 steel recommended by some friends. Its like an ESEE-6 but in D2 steel and full flat grind. I would like to ask here that have anyone used that knife here and what were the results and edge holding etc they got here? (PS: I know that sheath is bad but I can get my custom sheath built, not an issue.)....All I want is to know about blade and overall quality. I hope you all will help me through....Thanks mates.

I bought one a year or two ago when it first came out. It has great ergonomics for me and is built well. It cuts well and will show greater abrasive wear resistance than the ESSE 6 but it won't be as tough because it's hardened to higher hardness and has greater amounts of carbides. No, it won't fall apart. I don't baton with my knives but if I did a thin knife in D2 wouldn't be the one I would do it with.

I haven't seen any hard use tests on it but the people around here that have it seem to like the way it cuts, which is the purpose of having a knife.

There is coated and non coated around. D2 doesn't really need coating IMO , just a little care. Coated ones need a little care as well so get which one you like. I got the non coated one.

It's not a huge knife in the hand BTW. It feels pretty handy and moves easy.

I also got one when they first came out and I think it is a great knife for the money. I can't imagine a "proper" knife task it could not handle. As The Mastiff said, its ergos are excellent. By the way, I found that my particular sheath, properly adjusted (I use cross draw carry), is better than you may think or have heard ,I know you said you were not concerned, just sayin' :). I highly recommend the Vox Rold .

Sheath is no problem.....I can get one made for me.....Overall knife I want to see.... thanks

Great knife, I wouldn't be afraid of using it hard. Its 5mm thick and while D2 is not the toughest steel in the world, its not your grannys chinaware either.
Nutnfancy (yeah I know) has done a test video where he batons it in a cold environment, and it held up well.
I have the coated version and its one of my favorite knives, very agile and good cutting performance. A good do-it-all knife, not too small, not too big.

I wont hammer it through an entire tree......rather some thick forest wood to make it usable enough to light a fire....

I have one, and love it. The sheath is the weakest part, but even that is decent enough.

The knife itself is awesome. Blade shape and size are goldilocks. Blade D2 takes a great edge and holds it better than my Esse. But the best thing? Handle ergonomics. The handle is just waaaay better than my Esse.

Seriously awesome knife.
