I have an interest in this knife as a do-it-all fixed blade. However, I do not hear much discussion about it, compared to an alternative such as the ESEE-6. Are there any owners of the vox rold who can speak to their thoughts on this knife? Any pictures of it compared to other competitive options would be great as well. I have read that the sheath has recently changed. Does anybody have a picture of the most current included sheath? Thanks all for the info.

I have a Rold, and there's only good things to say about the knife. Excellent edge retention, good allaround size, very tough (I used the handle as a step).
Get it!

Did you have any worries about the large lanyard holes in the handle, especially the one closest to the blade? I felt that may be an introduction for a weak point when batoning and chopping. It seems to be the only aspect of the blade that is holding me up.

one of my first posts here was to ask a question about the vox rold in the boker subforum, but there wasn't any activities there.

as for batoning, have you seen nutnfancy's review of the vox rold? from that video it would seem batoning is not an issue. tho the lanyard hold is larger than necessary IMHO, but i guess it's a design signature common to vox knives.

I did so much batoning and chopping with the Rold, if there was a weak point, it would have failed by now. But it didn't. So don't worry about that.

Many fixed blades including bushcraft styles have large holes in the tang some larger than the Rold but you don't see them as they are covered up by the handle material. Google images for knife blade blanks or knife X-ray and you will see.

Sorry it's OT.: @Brisket: Is this your dog in the avatar? Is it a pyrenean mountain dog?

Many knives have skeletonized tangs. No big deal. That front hole is actually good. You can put a lanyard through it. I prefer a front lanyard to a rear lanyard because when you wrap it around your hand properly, if you loose your grip, the knife will stay in/close to the palm of your hand vs dropping down & swinging with a rear lanyard. I have done that & cut my arm.
