Was looking at the lesser priced knives and came across Boker and had never heard of them before (learning a lot on here thanks  ). I liked the look, but wondered about quality for the price. How do they compare in quality to buck. I chose buck just because they are similar in price.

Thanks.

Uh... Boker has been in business since the 1600s. :D

Some of their knives are made in Argentina, and the quality of those is mixed. Many of their knives are still made in Germany though, and the quality is excellent.

Comparing Buck to Boker... do you have specific models in mind?

No, they just were cheaper and I liked the look, so I thought I'd see if they were good or if you get what you pay for in knives like other things (electronics.)

For example, I looked here: http://www.the-knife-connection.com/boker-knives--hunting---fixed-blade-knives.html

The knives seemed reasonably priced. I saw more out there some were higher, but these were the first ones I saw.

Sorry, I can't help with regards to the Boker Magnum line.

Looking for a high-quality Boker knife? I have one of these, and the quality is very impressive:

And I have a Boker-Argentina fixed blade knife, sort of like this one:http://www.agrussell.com/bandouml;ker-genuine-gaucho-knife/p/BOhhhGAUCHO6/
Build quality is very good, but the 440A steel will probably limit it to being a looking-at knife.

I think if you search Bladeforums, you'll come up with a few reviews of those Magnum knives, like this one:

I have a few magnum knives. THe ones I have have a quite ok build quality, and a low price because they are made in "far away", and because they come with cheaper "classic" steels such as 440 (the very cheap ones with 420 even).
Personally, I'd save just a bit more for the Boker Plus series, there are several affordable very well designed knives, such as the Trance, M-Type, Hyper and Subcom.
I do like this original small "Magnum M" (the button releases the liner lock), it is nicely made and it looks a bit different:

I know you are asking on fixed blades, but to add about slip joints...

Buck makes a good working knife with solid construction.
They have thicker hollow ground blades that I find too chunky.
The US made knives have black delrin scales.
A tougher plainer work knife than Boker.

Boker comes in both carbon and SS, with a selection of different bone scales.
The blades are flat ground, which makes for a much thinner blade.
The higher priced knives are better than Buck, but the similar priced knives are of a similar quality.
But Boker have much more character than Buck.

I like the Boker slip-joints a great deal. I've had four, still have two, and the quality on each has been very good. From the little carbon/ delrin pen knife in my pocket right now to one of the AG Russell branded barlows.

The Boker-Plus models designed by Chad los Banos are worth the money in my opinion. The designs are great and the build is just what you expect. Nothing fancy, but nothing wrong, either.
