Boker vs case

Sharpening up some old carbon steel slippies made me want a new carbon steel slipjoint. I am trying to decide between a case in cv and a carbon steel boker. So who makes a better carbon steel slipjoint? Who has better fit and finish? Better out of the box Sharpness? Better edge holding? I got to say i am leaning for the boker because i am in the mood for another german-made knife and they also come with a wider variety of handle materials from the pharmacy.

Oh yeah and just to be clear on some terms. Is patina the black corrosion that builds up on the blade with pitting being the orange rust? Thanks for the help.

Case vs Boker is like Ford vs Chevy. Either one in carbon steel would be a great knife. You might want to check out Queen also.

I have not been able to find any regular carbon steel queen knives and i am looking for something much easier to sharpen than d2. No body else has any input or did Spydie fan hit the nail on the head.

I guess it comes down to whatever floats your boat. I've bought a few of each in the recent past and they were all up to par. You can always send it back to the pharmacy if it's not up to your standards.

I can't comment on Case vs. Boker. I thought Case's CV steel was especially good at edge holding, but I'm not certain about that.

Regarding the corrosion question, yes the black or grey coloration on the blade is patina. It is a form of oxidation that is stable and helps protect the blade to some extent. The orange crumbly stuff is rust. Pitting is a crater left in the blade once the rust is removed.

I own both and I have to give the Case CV steel a nod over Boker, it seems to sharpen a bit easier and holds the edge a bit better. Unfortunately CV is only available on a limited number of Case knives unless you want to find an older Case knife.

I agree with Absintheur. I carry an enjoy both. Bokers in CV and dresser handles are easier to find. I was just stropping a Boker Barlow a few moments ago. Either one is good. Go for the one in the style and type that you want. I do carry my Boker Barlow (tortoise celluloid) the most though, a good EDC whereas my Cases are more utility looking (yellow handled). Other 1095's are a Moore Maker (Queen) Whittler (not worth the $$$, IMHO) and a Queen Canoe - a beauty that I like to carry in the office but it is too nice to muck around with - I don't know why I treat it like that. Bokers and Cases have nice patinas and get hard use. For Queen 1095 check out Cumberland Knife, Queen Classics.

I wish Case would stop with all the cheesy stuff and have at least a couple CV lines with normal handles in Bone or Wood.

I think if I could only go with one brand it would be Boker - I like their designs better.
