I don't understand 4 spots for Kizlyar Supreme models and 3 spots for Famars SRT models. I guess that's not the only problem I find with the list, but that's the worst. Makes me wonder if the writer is getting some free gear out of it.

That's and odd list, no Strider's, Hinderers's, Beckers's, Esee's, etc, etc, etc. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Glad I didn't waste my money on that buyer's quide!

Ugh, I flipped through this mag the other night at Wally World. I don't think there's but 10 knives in the whole thing I'd ever be interested in.

The whole issue was just list after list after list with all the buzzwords in the titles, from tactical, bushcraft, survival, etc

No reviews or comparisons or anything useful

If you ask 30 people what the 30 top tactical knives are you will get 30 different lists with 30 different answers.

Good call on the Stiders, Hinderers, and CRKs. Not a single Emerson either. I figured the Benchmade Auto or Kershaw Blur would've made the list solely for the fact that so many LE use them. Meh.

I'll stick with my 0200 and Super Karambit. :)

Some of the choices had me befuddled as well! Only 11 of the 30 do I have or would consider getting: Spyderco, ZT, Pohl Force, Wilson Combat and Spartan Blades. It was a consensus of writers and editors at that publication picking not just the newest but perhaps for different budgets?!

I have that issue and I think the knives in it, in all categories were based on ad money the company threw at the mag and not the actual products.

Kizlyar Supreme??? wow.. looks like paid advertisement not a real "top" list...

Forreal, the fact that they got so many spots in the list...? there are many companies out there making many better knives. They should have hit more individuals instead of just
This brand X Y and Z, and this brand....

It's a weird list. I wonder what the criteria behind it is. I mean, there are some pretty big names missing. Stuff like this is why I stopped subscribing to knife magazines, lots of advertising hidden in the form of articles, anything reviewed is always amazing, etc.

Nailed it. Its no doubt just a list compiled from their top advertisers.

I'm not quite getting the point of these threads. They feel oddly "promotional."

As the OP, the only thing I'm promoting by creating such threads is the sharing of lists. If you have a list, even your own, please share. Most lists are subjective anyway.

OK. Not sure then why you chose to include links to the magazine sites where they were posted, or instructions and prices on how to purchase the magazine, then. But I see those have ben removed, so its academic.

What isn't academic is that the "advertorial" content in these publications is notorius. Hence, any rankings they create are, at best, tainted.

Its why I don't read them and come here for my reading instead. To be free from that nonsense. In my opinion.

How about you sharing your list? I'm sure we would all be interested in that.

Apologies. That was ultimately a bad call on my part.

I had included sources to that particular issue of the publication as a preventative measure of any questions to the source since the article itself is not available online for free.

Of course, I also got a warning for it from the mods saying: "You are not allowed to direct sales to a source which is not a paid Bladeforums dealer."

So, I removed it from Post #1 after reading your "promotional" comment.

In hindsight, I should never have included it.

Live and learn...
