OK, a few folks have been nagging me (;)) to show of my Bolo for them. So I finally got off my tukas and took some pix of the thing for all of you to check out. I picked this one up off of Dave Rishar a while ago. I had seen an old post of his in the For Sale area here @ BF and noticed this one hadn't sold. So I asked him if he still had it and still wanted to let it go, he did and did so I bought it. I am not positive what sort of wood this is on the handle, maybe someone here can help me ID it. It is the right color for neem but doesn't look to me to have the right grain pattern. Of course I haven't seen all that much neem wood... anyway, here are your pix...

let's start out with the standard spread...

What the?

Didn't really have much to chop up but I did have this really dry and hard branch I thought might be a decent test. Down near the fatter end it took a few strokes, up to three, to cut it. Once I got up to the thinner areas though it was a one stroke deal to make little sticks out of this thing. I want to stress how hard this branch was, it was like a rock. I was sure that there would be something to show where the chopping took place but as you can see, the edge simply cleaned up with soap & water and was no worse for the wear.

in closing, some fuller pron... :D

Tks for sharing,Warty! Really nice piece! The fuller is really awesome!

This one would be a cool trekking knife! Can you share the dimension of the V, I mean height of bevel & thickness of bevel when it touches the fuller.

Any folks remember how to calculate one angle of a triangular when we have length of its 3 sides? I was bad at Math. My close friend studied Math for me and I studied his Literature.

yeah, I can calculate the angle for you but I am not sure what it would mean.

you know, I try so hard to give all the measurements I think people will want and someone always pulls something funky outta the air on me. :D I suppose if it means a lot to you I can try and take the measurement for you but all I have s a measuring tape to do it with so it isn't gonna be very exact.

What I'm trying to find out is how narrow or how wide is the cutting angle. Some designs have thick bevel while others have a thin ones. This also helps define personal treatment of kamis on a single design. Like I heard that Bura has a thinner bevel than other kamis.

nice bolo. i like the DR jingle bell :)

somehow, i always knew your were an orc? mmm

Bladite

WOW. I like the blade profile alot... the wood grain is nice too. Don't know if I'd like that fuller though. Great specimen. Always staying on top of the game, Warty :D Do you have pictures of your entire collection?

There are posts of each collection, Swords, Khuks and Knives etc that I have posted but they are not complete since time marches on.
You can easily search them out though to get the idea of what all I have here, some have been sold and other new ones bought.

Hung, I don't really have the tools to make the measurements. Without a caliper it would be a best guess using a tape measure.

Back was OK yesterday but I suppose back to the same old pain level today. :(
Good days, bad days, I take what I get and ask for no more. I do all I can to make more good than bad happen though.

So, no one knows what kind of wood this handle is?

Could be a type of Maple.

Could be Satisal (Yangdu said that was a type of oak), without laha being rubbed in to give it the reddish color.

Good grab on that Bob White Bolo warty. I saw it on Dave's Sale list, thought about it and by the time I had checked back two others had put dibs on it. I figured it was already gone since the Pen Knife wasn't marked "SOLD" yet either. Like the saying goes: "He who hesitates is lunch."

Nice blade all around. Your picture is a little better than Dave's and brings the detail out well. Looks like it's always ready for work.

Again, Congratulations on your acquisition and good thoughts for your improved health.

Rick
