I sharpened an old bolo machete today using a belt grinder. I started to get frustrated because one small section of the edge that appears to have come together would not raise a burr. So instead of grinding away I just left it be. I figure next time I sharpen it I’ll try again. It’s plenty sharp to do what it’s meant to do.
I used a 1X30 belt sander. I started with 50 grit because I had to remove a lot of metal the thing was blunt! Then 120 and 240. I probably did not need to do the 120. I don’t see any point in polishing this any further it’s a yard tool.
Is it normal to not raise a burr in extreme curves? The bolo has a pretty steep curve at the tip.
Thanks.
