The bolster on my BGRS has cracked. Is there a simple repair for this? I searched the forum but came up empty.

thanks,
Patrick

thanks for the suggestion Uncle Bill- what type of epoxy is best for khukuri repair?

I was considering trading it in, but it is my first 'real' khukuri and I can't bear to part with it. The more I use it the better it works for me. I'm going to keep it and practise khukuri repair and sharpening techniques on it. My HI khukuri purchase fund has been started, and I have just bought a lighter khukuri from T.Sisco to tide me over. And there are all those ugly old guns to be sold for khukuri money......

Oh yeah, does anyone know anything about the Nepalese Army khukuris? Are they basically the same thing Gurkha House advertises as their Service #1?

thanks,
Patrick

Get an epoxy that is recommended for metals and even better one that is applicable for brass. Check out the local hardware store. When you are gluing to brass, polish it first before cementing. The oxide layer grows quickly on brass and can often compromise an adhesive.

I don't know what the Nepali army is using. The GH No. 1 or HI BAS is almost identical to the khukuri's I have seen in pictures of modern (British) Gurkhas.

Thanks for the information- I really appreciate your advice Mr Kwan.
Uncle Bill, T.Sisco says the Nepalese Army Khuk I'm getting from him is an older one, called a depot model. It may be much the same as the ones you saw years ago.

pmcelrath,

As for the epoxy to use on metals, I've had especially good results with something called JB Weld. It's a really ugly grey color once it's cured, but it has worked like a champ for me.

My closest friend is a beginning custom knife amd sheath maker. He swears by it. Wasn't sure if it would work on brass. Can you buy it at a hardware store?
