Good day everyone.
I was curious as to the thickness of the bolsters on a g.e.c. knife? are they solid or do they have a cavity of sorts? I know they are nickel/silver but I am more curious as to the thickness and are they solid up to the brass or hollow?

Thanks in advance.

The barlows have steel bolsters. I'm not sure about the hollow, you could check GECs work in progress pages, you may be able to see. OR,just wait for someone who knows ;-)))

Regards

Robin

Thanks Robin,
I looked at the G.E.C. website in production and the nickel/silver bolsters look to be solid and not hollow. im not sure why they would make hollow bolsters any way. One false move and you have a dent that cant be taken out.if they are solid you can buff or lightly sand them out without fear of reaching the inside of the bolster due to its being hollow.

The Bolsters are one solid piece. They are stamped into dies very much the way coins are made. In fact the machine is called a Coining Press. The coined bolsters have a nub on the back which is inserted in a small hole in the liner and then flattened or peened over, like a rivet. It's the same for knives with end caps.

thanks for the info,i guess the bolsters being solid also would give them a little counter weight as well?

sure look solid to me. and they also look pretty thick as well.
