I have a jigged bone 303 Cadet and use it around the house and carry it some. I have so many Buck knives that I enjoy I don't carry the same one all the time. The 303 is my favorite pattern. I was just wondering if anyone has used the bone handled 303 (or any of the new limited edition bone handled knives) enough to see how the bone will ware with use? Also how it holds up? I love the look and feel of the bone when it gets that pocketworn feel. Thanks for the help.

I’m in the same boat as you are. I picked up a bone handled Cadet off Ebay a month or so ago. It quickly rose to the level of EDC carry. I absolutely LOVE this knife!!!! It’s classy looking, and cuts like there’s no tomorrow. I just haven’t had it long enough yet to judge the handle after extended use.

Thanks Buzzbait. I actually got one from SMKW then got one off Ebay so I could carry one and keep one. I am not crazy about the black sawcut handles Buck uses but I'll have to admit they are tough. I guess the bone will hold up pretty well. Years ago it was one of the leading materials for handles on pocketknives. I would like to see Buck come out with a series of 300s with a real nice jigged delrin like the ones used on the Remington reproductions. Then you get the look of bone with the durability of delrin. I really do like mine. I was given an old Buck 303 with red jigged bone handles made about 10 years ago. It is really nice looking. Thanks again and God bless the U.S.A.

The actual bone used is the shin bone from cattle. It is really tough and should hold up just fine. As with any natural product, the real damage comes from moisture (and lack of same). You get expansion and shrinkage and that can crack handles around rivets etc.

As for wear, it is not as hard as stag horn but is usually harder than most woods...and it looks so good.

Thank you C. J. for your response. I look forward the the pocket worn look and feel of my bone Cadet. I also appreciate your response to the question by Blue Man. You folks at Buck are a credit to the industry. I had the honor of meeting your father in May at SMKW and he was a joy to talk with. I enjoy Buck knives because of the quality but also because of the way you honor God and stand behind every product to the uttermost. Thanks and may God continue to bless Buck Knives.
