So I've been looking for a knife for camping tasks, food prep, and whittling sticks for fun, nothing serious here. I'm no hunter, so I don't need a skinning knife. The Benchmade Bone Collector 15000(link at the bottom of post) looks to me like what I'm looking for, but I'm no knife expert and I had some concerns. Is the D2 steel good for whittling, or is the edge too brittle? A guy at work told me it's brittle steel for a thin knife, dunno. I'm not saying he's credible, just that he implanted the thought in my mind. What steel should I look for as an alternative if D2 is'nt the best option? My other question is they can come with the wooden handle, and that looks awesome, but I'm afraid it will weather and crack on me when I really need it. Is that a valid concern, or should I just relax? Their site is pretty convincing that their process of making those handles is strong. But my common sense says wood is wood... The not-so-good-looking sheath is no concern to me, I'll probably make a sheath for whatever I end up getting. Thank you for your input guys.
