Just got this little baby in last night from Knifecenter. It's compact, not too heavy, and super stout feeling. I'm always on the lookout for a folding "bushcraft" knife and the overall shape of this one just spoke to me. The handle is comfortable which is lacking on many folders, and the clip is unobtrusive as well. This will get updated as I carry and use it more, but so far I'm digging it!

Woah I've never really been interested in this one but I gotta say you have piqued my interest. If you don't mind whats the price point on this baby? How is the fit/finish/use?

It was I think $92 shipped from Knifecenter. Fit & finish is pretty flawless like every Benchmade I've owned. Came razor sharp with no blade play, and solid lockup. So far I've cut up an apple and opened boxes. I'm interested to see how it does on wood, which I should find out this weekend. But so far so good!

Can you please take a picture of it next to some other well known knives for reference?

How is the lockup? Any blade play?
Is the blade lose when closed?
I am curious about this model, especially because of the D2 steel.

Will do.

Never had any lockup or blade play issues on any Benchmade  Blade is rock solid when locked, and fully secure when closed. The steel is impressive as well. I like D2 and it's a refreshing change from S30V. It has performed well on cutting up different foods, cardboard and carving on wood. I wouldn't mind if the blade stock was a little thinner as it would slice much better, but overall I am enjoying using it.

Here is another pic from a hike this past weekend, just because it looks cool

That looks great for an EDC, compared to a Queen lockback? cutting ability?

thanks, been on the lookout for a lockback, this is great with G10.

Hmm, the Queen may be slightly thinner so it might slice better, but I'm not sure. I don't mean to say that this is a bad cutter, but I always cut up apples and could feel the shoulder of the blade hang just a bit when slicing. Not a problem at all really, just something I noted. But overall I am very happy with it. It really bites nicely into wood as well, which I am happy about since it will ride with me at work and in the mountains as well.

tknife (or anyone who has a 15055-1),

Based on your glowing review I bought a 15055-1. It is a very nice "traditional" style knife indeed, but I am seeing one little issue with mine and was hoping you could check yours and see if it has the same issue. If it doesn't I will send mine back for a replacement - I don't think it would be designed this way.

Hold it so you are looking down at the top where the locking bar is located with the pocket-clip to the right. On mine the center screw for the scale is to long and goes through the liner and pushes on the locking bar causing a gap of several thousands of and inch. It is easy to see if you have the blade open and look when there is a lit background, e.g. light, window.

Thanks for looking.

Hmm, I have not noticed but I will take a look tonight when I get home. It sounds like something I would have seen though, so you may have a warranty issue there.

It's easy to grab the wrong screw from the parts bin. Over time, I've collected a bunch of extras because having the wrong length can scratch a blade, or cause your problem that sure reads like the screw is too long. You might want to give them a call at 800-800-7427 and ask customer service to send you out a replacement set for the knife...just make sure you give them the clear description you gave us here. I don't know this knife...will it affect the thing to remove the screw, or can you at least back it out until it's fixed? Just an idea.

Thanks guys for the responses,

I didn't want to remove any screws in fear of voiding the warranty or causing difficulties in returning the knife for an exchange - but I did :).

I removed the center screw for the scale and amazingly there was still something between the liner and locking bar. Then it dawned on me - it's the pivot pin for the locking bar. The center screws for the scales on both sides go through the scales and liner and rest against the locking bar pivot pin. So the problem is the pivot pin is several thousands of an inch too long (wide) and pushes (bulges) the right liner slightly.

Called Benchmade and they said it shouldn't be this way. Called the reseller I bought it from and had them look at another one in stock and they said no gap was noticed. So this one is going back for an exchange. Kind of takes the fun out of getting a new knife, but the world continues to turn. :)

It really is a nice knife, about the only change I would like is to have the blade made of a true stainless like 154CM or even better S30V.

Nice that you got it figured out and they're taking care of ya. Actually one of the reasons I liked it was that it was D2. Most everything out there is S30V nowadays, and I have been really impressed with the D2 in my Axis lock Bone Collector.

Take more pictures!

sogflash,

I believe you are asking for more 15055-1 pictures like tknife posted, but if you are asking for pictures to show the “gap” I was discussing in my earlier posts I will "link" two terrible quality pictures that at least make the defect easier to visualize.

Bottom view with the “gap” showing between the liner and locking bar enhanced by using a flashlight behind a manila folder.

I checked mine and it definitely doesn't have that gap. Think of it this way, it's like getting that new knife feeling all over again when the new one comes! ;)
