Has anyone else experimented with Methanol/Toluene/Xylene (aka Brake Cleaner) to increase the contrast of G10 scales?

My normally black Fiberglass G10 scales when sprayed with Brake Cleaner and dried turn into alternating rings of grey and black, much like canvas micarta.

Here's my "Bone Dried" Boker Haddock for example. The knife as it came from Boker didn't have nearly the same level of contrast in the scales.

Yep I've done it, not on purpose though but it did look cool, I eventually removed it though with some WD40.

Mineral spirits works the best. then to remove the "dry'ness" the secret is Wahl Clipper Oil.....ssshhhhhhhhh! ;) it's better than anything out there for restoring G10!

Yup, oil gets rid of it in a hurry.

I like the look. As you said it is much like micarta.
