I recently purchased a couple of Camillus knives. They are bone handled. The numbers on the blades are 64 and 83. What do these numbers stand for? I am new at this. They are both in excellent condition. I paid less than $35.00 for the pair.

Those numbers are the pattern (style, model, etc) numbers for that particular knife. These numbers are useful to collectors for identifying, dating, and discussing the knives.

deerslayer, could you post pics. i'd like to see them. i have a few Camillus', some were listed as bone, others as jigged delrin, but i cannot tell the difference with these knives (i can easily discern with other knives). so let's see. roland

These are the knives I am talking about

The handles on both knives appear to be Delrin, not bone.

Where can I find a guide to the pattern numbers on the blades that will tell me what I have and or looking at?

i've only been "around here" a few months, but it seems to me that where knives are concerned, there is no single truly comprehensive source of information. i have 4 knife reference books, have read 1000s of bladeforum posts, posted lots of questions, and use ebay to show me a wide spectrum of knives. also, i usually learn something from every knife i get. so, i think "knife knowledge" is gained piecemeal over time, and really, that's part of what makes it so enjoyable, there is always more to learn. i have about 25 or so Camillus knives to date, about 1/2 are vintage, and all are well made, with zero blade play and good springs and a good feel in the hand. i like these knives and Camillus may supplant Case and Queen in importance to my collection. get yourself a few and check them out first hand. roland

Camillus knives seem to be a lot more attractive now that they are defunct. There seems to be a few models in abundance, though. Where are they coming from?
