I have noticed that some vintage Case Barlows have grooves and deep scratches in the bone used for the scales. It appears that the “defects” in the bone were there before the knife was made. This example here is from the 1965-69 range. It appears to be mint condition. Any info or ideas?

If you Google “vintage case barlow photos” you‘ll see this a pretty common trait with older Case Barlows.
