Here's something to do. I eyed this knife for a week, and really wanted it, but labored over whether or not it is bone or bonite. I really like Ulsters, and I have this pattern in a black plastic. It is an Ulster 40 pattern.

I thought it was to new in age to be genuine bone, so I decided to bid so that I would not feel ripped off if it was not bone, so I think I did OK.

What do you guys think? Sometimes I have a hard time even when I have it in my hand. I think it is not bone. Looks too perfect.

:thumbup:thawk I had that same one on watch and didn't go on it because of my lack of for sure knowledge (mind can play tricks on a person) the pics almost make it look too good? you probably will come out good Post your thoughts & pics when it arrives;).

That's a sweet knife thawk! pictures are so good it's really hard to tell, I think I would be happy either way, boy if it is bone though that's an excellent win.

I was watching it, just couldn't tell if it was actually bone or not. It just looks "too perfect." Hope it turns out well for you!

Same story here!! Some of the views convince me it is bone, some don't. Getting cynical in my old age, I passed!!
If it's bone, it's a great price!!

No damn wonder we can't buy things right;) we be fighten the same battle:D got to get together and figure that out?!:p

Well, if it is jigged bone, it sure isn't like the older bone handles. Those are fairly unmistakeable. I have quite a few Ulsters, but I don't think I have one quite like this. I must have looked at it 30 times. The bonite scales Ulster did look like bone in a photo until you get up close. I think this one is like some of the Schrade Waldens that have that deep red color. I'll post some better close up pictures when I get it.

Not bone. Very good faux peachseed. Telltale sign with magnification is melting around the shield. Flunked the skate test. Would take a hot pin for sure. Better pictures on the listing would have easily exposed it. I have a similar Ulster Junior Stockman.

I won't complain, because I knew going in it was probably a long shot to be bone. Did I overpay, yep a little on this one. Still a nice Ulster, heavy and hearty, like a Walden. Another one I can add to my collection as an education piece. Lesson learned: ask for better pics to be emailed, before bidding. :o

I will point it out with some subtle scolding er, for the sellers education before I leave feedback. :D

Some of the nicest looking faux peachseed I've seen! The light highlights give it the look; musta gone to the beauty salon:p!:D! Nice knife!!

Thanks for the compliment. The front side has the lighter highlights. Nice avatar by the way. Is that you in the picture?

Beautiful knife nonetheless Thawk! That "melting" around the shield may be glue seepage from a re-mounted shield, and not melted delrin. Could it be bonite, or whatever the other non-delrin handle material was called at the time?

Well honestly, now I'm not 100% sure. For sure it is the best faux I have at the very least. I'll have to get some others that have more experience than me to look at it. Thanks for the comments Eric. Much appreciated.

Sweet as a nut that one thawk! fantastic looking scales, I do not consider you paid too much, I've seen lesser knives go for far more than you paid for this one.
