Which will darken Red and Amber bone better?
Tea or Black Coffee?
Will either parina a 1095 blade if that is what the knife in question has? If so, I will presume soaking the knife in the cup for a spell is not an option.

RITZ dye is not an option for me. The facility does not allow it.

I would imagine the coffee would be more likely to cause the blade to patina, being that it is more acidic, if only marginally. That being said they're both acidic and will both cause a reaction.

Would potassium permanganate be an option? It has some other uses as well, im not sure why the dye isn't allowed but that would be my recommendation to darken it.

They "think" it will:
(a) stain the sink.
(b) "damage the pipes".
(c) Get into the washer and "dye everyone's clothes" for a couple to a few loads.
(d) It will be mistaken for a beverage.

RE: "d": There are a couple here that IF they got hold of it, they probably would make that error.
However, as with my cutlery, slingshots, sling, blow gun, archery, and when they get here, my muzzleloader, all accessores, compact 1911 and ammo, I would keep it locked up in my room, so those medically certified idiots cannot gain access or possession.

I would recommend the potassium permanganate, you mix a tiny cap full of it and "paint" it on to darken the bone. Pretty easy
