I plan on aquiring a Queen CSB for a user. I have only had delrin Queens in the past.

What, if anything, should be used to treat bone scales to eliminate drying and cracking? (I don't plan on dropping it, but it could happen.)

Please comment on:
1. Mineral oil
2. Beeswax
3. Mink oil
4. other waxes (ren wax?)
5. Other oils?

Which of these will darken? (Not that I care much, just curious).

I only use mineral oil, and so far I have never seen evidence of it harming my Queen CSB knives or any others I own.

How much does it darken, if at all?
Does the oil absorb well, or does it leave surface residue?

Is the bone impregnated with something after it is machined so I don't have to worry about it?

A little goes a LONG way, I normally just put a drop on a cloth and wipe the outside of the knife down, then put 1 drop in the pivot area and let it slip in between the metal parts.

After carrying a bone handled knife for awhile, they will absorb oil at the ends of the scales where they meet up with the metal bolsters, as that is where the porous bone is most vulnerable. You might see some darkening in that area after awhile, but if it's a carry knife that you are using, to me it only adds character to the knife.

This has happened to me, no matter what oil was used, I am not sure if it's the oil used on the knife, or just moisture from my pocket and oil from my hands when the knife is used.
