Bone scales on a BK2?

Hello everyone! I have an interesting question. I got bit by the Becker bug, I got a BK2, took it on a weekend excursion. I liked it so much, I bought a BK9 and a BK11 as soon as I got back! Lurking around here as I have been, I see a lot of modifications. Now I think I may need to personalize my BK2. I know I'm gonna strip it down and give it a patina, but I have a few questions about scales. I see a ton of micarta and wood, a few G 10 scales, but no bone. There is no doubt that it would look snazzy as all get out, but I haven't seen anyone do it.. Is bone a good choice, or is there a reason I haven't seen bone here before? Any input would be extremely helpful!

I think its a great idea. Would no doubt be unique and probably look pretty good too, if you like bone and I do. Would it be tough enough for heavy use?

There is an old post somewhere that has them. Saw it some time ago.

That is a big slab of bone, I would love to see it though. While your at it make me a set too.

I think bone scales would look great, even if you don't strip the blade i think the black and the off white would go well together. I have thrown around the idea about making some out of some off white corrian (man made plasticish synthetic marble type stuff) I have sitting around. If you decide to try it out make sure you take lots of pictures.

I've fantisized about a BK5 with bone scales! I cant imagine where you would find a bone long and thick enough for this though. I'd love to see it!

Do it.

Cow femur is gonna be big enough and strong enough. If you feel a touch of exotic, rhino, hippo, and most larger land mammal femurs will be large enough and strong enough to do it.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the input! I just needed to make sure the bone would be able to keep up with my knife! That is one tough lil bastard! I wouldn't put any scales on it, that would impede its use. As soon as I find some decent slabs, I got me a project!

Found it, but it looks to be stag, or something like that: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...f-your-stripped-beckers?p=9010832#post9010832

Seeing that bk2 all dressed up in stag makes me think that a 16 would look pretty fine waring the same stuff, but then again I might just have tweeners on the mind.

I think we'll see a lot of stripped/custom handled tweeners.
