EDIT--Pics

Hello I just got a rough rider with white smooth bone handles and it has alot of black flecks through the bone. so I'm wondering if there is a way to whiten the black spots without ripping the knife apart or tarnishing the metals too bad(brass, nickel sliver and stainless steel). Thanks!

some black flecks are nearly always present in white bone, light yellow bone exhibits the same feature sometimes. i would,nt attepmt to remove.---dennis

Those black specks are through and through the bone. There's no way you'll ever remove them. Not even if you soak them in Aunt Gertie's denture bowl. Those specs tell a tale. I'm not sure what the tale is but they tell a tale none-the-less. Enjoy the knife as it is. It is a nice looking knife.

FYI, I have dyed RR white bone handles using Fiebings leather dye, It works quite well if you sand the handles with 400 grit.

Robin

You could lightly sand with a high grit (400 or better) and use hydrogen peroxide to bleach the surface. Make sure it's cleaned with alcohol to get rid of any oils before the treatment. No guarantees, but it should lighten the specs.
The thing is, it will whiten the bone, so if the specs don't lighten they may be emphasized.

Looks ok to me too.If its not buffing compound that been pressured into the tiny fissures, youll never get it out.If some of it is compound,a hot bath with dawn and a scrub brush will help.
