Hey All,
Just wanted to do a show and tell on my recently acquired Bonecutter.
This was from the DOD on 7/26, 18inch 33oz by Santosh. I know there has been some talk about the bonecutter not up to par from the originals, but this is some serious steel either way.

Once I received the khuk, I looked it over, overall I was pleased, but there were a few issues, not complaining at all, as this was a DOD. Back to that later. As soon as I held this, I knew right away that this was going to be my user and not a shelf queen.

It has a ton of soul and I mean dark soul. The handle scales are purple black with some grain coming through but very dark, and the blade just calls to be used and used. The balance is more forward, which gives it some serious chopping power as a few trees in the yard found out:D.

When I got the khuk, I noticed that the scabbard was a bit rough. Again no complaints, the karda and chakmak did not sit right, and the leather is a bit off in spots. So I decided to do a few mods to it. I have modded a few before so it was no biggie. A few members here have done a few also. First I wanted to make a slimmer profile, so the karda and chakmak had to go.

This gave me the profile I wanted, but caused a few issues. First what to do with the extra leather once you remove the leather loops and the wood wedge. I did not want to cut and restitch, so I used some contact cement and folded the leather over and clamped it till dry. Next was the frog, it was to big to hold the khuk, so I had to cut it and relace it, was very easy.

After that I removed the metal tip at the bottom of the scabbard. I then dipped it in a liquid rubber coating about three inches, this protects the stitching and the bottom overall.

After all this I decided to wrap the lower portion of the scabbard with some paracord I had. This is very handy if you ever need it in an emergency. I used probably 20 feet of it, at the bottom I braided about 14 inches of extra cord to use as a leg tie-down if needed.

This is it after I finished. You like??:D:D

Hope you guys like it, Thanks for checking it out.

Looks Good!

Welcome to the family. And the wonders of HIKV!!!

Ya think it's cool now...just wait till you've chopped down a few trees with it!!

nice looking rig. I keep toying with the idea of either a bonecutter or m43, and the pics aren't helping.

Looks good Pugs, I do like. The rubber dip is a good idea too, gonna hafta do that to my users too as that metal gets a bit poky for my tastes. I also like the slimmer look to the scabbard and have often thought about yanking that stuff out but worried about what to do with the extra leather. Guess the easy way never occurred to me. :o I think I will see about doing this to my car khuk asap.

Thanks Guys,
It really is an easy mod. I always keep a diamond steel or a chakmak in my kit, so touching up the blade is no problem in the field. The rubber coating I picked up from Harbor Freight, just dip and let dry, then do it again as many times as you like, it builds up pretty quick.

I like it alot can you show pics of where you redid sheath where small blades where

JParanee,
It would be hard to take the photos now after wrapping the paracord. But its an easy walk through. After removing the two small leather circles for the karda and chakmak, they are held in by some small nails. I used needle nose pliers. Once there out you can remove the wood wedge, it has one or two nails at the bottom, I just pulled and wiggled until it let loose. Once it is out, there is the extra leather, instead of cutting and restitching, I just used some contact cement, kind of just slathered it in there between the wood and the leather and folded the leather over and clamped it with my quick grips and let it dry. Once you redo the frog and replace it you will not see the fold. Hope it helps.

Funny, I was looking at my M-43 scabbard yesterday and wondering if wrapping it in paracord would be a good idea or not. Thanks for making up my mind for me...
