I'm a recent Spyderco convert. It was actually a long hard road, but I finally arrived. They're my second favorite brand now but I'll probably soon actually OWN more Spydies than anything else because you DO get a lot for very LITTLE money which means I can buy MORE. I've come to accept and love their form-follows-function design even though they're ugly and take my fashion shopping elsewhere. I'll be on this section of the forum a lot now I think.

Today I got a Delica with the Zytel handles and VG-10 full-serr blade. I feel stupid, but I can't figure out how to swap the clip to the other side; at least without trying too hard and maybe stripping the rather-odd slots that aren't flat on the bottom. How?

For the lightweight Delicas (and other Spydies with the same clip setup) I've found a coin such an a nickel or quarter to be the best 'screwdriver.' I've read that Sal designed them this way so they would be easy to change.

They're sized for pennies. Not only don't you need any special tools, you don't need any tools at all!

They're a sorta anti-Torx :D

Oh, my! A COIN! That's GENIUS!
That explains the odd screws.

I used a pair of dimes after reading your two posts and it worked perfectly.

Well, DUH! A coin!
I'm just a little more impressed with Spyderco now.:D

And the good thing for you is you live in the same city as the plant so you can go over to their annual factory sale.

Qestion, what took you so long to convert seeing as the plant is like right at your doorstep?

I no longer find most Spydercos ugly, although it did take me a while to get used to their unusual looks. On the other hand, there are a few that even "normal" people seem to find attractive. :)

If you want a gentleman's Spydie look into the Chinese Lum, the shell-inlaid Natives, the shell-inlaid Vesuvius, the Mini-Dyad and the Toad for starters.

When's the sale?

It just took me to get past the ugliness.:)
But I do have two Lum Tantos that are some of my favorite folders of all time.

Actually I just bought a MeerKat just for laughs and I'm in love with it. You can probably blame that knife for winning me over.

Woohoo! I'm there and I'm bringin' friends!:D

Just a small mention about switching the clip. There's also a small washer. Take care not to put it together with the clip, but on the other side of the handles, or else the clip will wiggle.
OTOH, congratulations for seing the light ;)

ARRRRGHH!!! So close but yet so far! It's about a 6-hour drive from here to Golden. Probably spend $$ on gas, then $$$ on hardware.

You say second - does that mean there are more??? *drool*

I've gotta come down there one of these years... with about 2-3K for new toys. Was planning on the CKG show next spring, might get down to the 2nd sale in a couple years hopefully.

Tohatchi> as I understand it, the 2nd sale are ones slightly below standard QC. That could be a little bit of play, or a scratch.

You know, hint hint nudge nudge wink wink, someone could really make a killing buying up seconds and then selling/trading them off on the forums... or, if you're not in it for the money (I just try to break even, this is a hobby, more fun that way), you could maybe make enough to cover your gas and the knives you bought for yourself.

Just a thought.

I'd go down and buy cheap gifts. Give away one every few weeks in the forums, and bdays and such(ie coworkers). If I sold or traded some I'd have to ensure they knew about the 2nds.

Any Guntings among those seconds? I have thought about experimenting with having blades reground to special uses and sizes.
