I found this at the Topeka Gunshow this weekend. I must have walked by it several times as it was in the corner of a showcase. The workmanship is incredible. The thing locks up like a vault and is razor sharp. I would guess late 19th century but I know Mr.Gollnick can help me out. It's got German silver frames, bolsters, and latch, brass liners, carbon steel blade and genuine tortise shell scales. I don't think I'll be flipping this around much but it will flip! Here's some pics of my newest acquisition....

That's the actual size! The red bali has a 6 1/2" blade; the other almost 2"....

That is a very fine example of Bontgen and Sabin. It could be 19th Century, but probably more likely very early 20th. It looks to be in very good condition. Bernard Levine can provide a more exact date since he has some old catalogs.

Nice find.

Hey Dudley,

Careful twirling this beast! Get your finger caught and the sheer mass of those handles will snip it clean off!

Dudley,

That is a fine example of an antique butterfly. I did not realize the older ones were quite valuable.

What do you think of this one? Real ivory scales. Pristine mint. 2" blade.

That's a beautiful example! With a 2" blade it's about the same size as mine, the knife that is!

I'm infatuated with the intricacy of the piece; I'd hate to try to make one or pay someone to replicate it........

I ran across the same knife (the small one) at an antique show in Akron Oh. The guy wanted $50.00 for it. One of the ivory scales was gone, another one broken, and the blade had seen way to many regrinds, and no I didn't bring it home.
