Most of my annual bonus will go towards paying off loans, but you gotta reward yourself too from time to time. I mostly collect KAI stuff, but I have heard people say that everyone should own a sebenza. I really like the look of the ZT 0454, but I have no idea when it will actually be for sale, or if I have a chance at getting one once it does.

Then again if I go sebenza, I have a million choices for specifically which size, blade shape, style I want.

Hmmmm

Limited ZT would be more satisfying to own, because as you said there are a million choices for a Sebenza, and only a small amount of 454's.

If you keep up with ZT on Facebook or their email list, they will announce two weeks before release of when and how many are being sold.

I've had both. Currently I have 3 LE ZT knives and no more Sebenza.

The Sebenza is great, but it lacks the excitement of the ZT models, IMO. I'd be sure to try one out at some point, but the 0454 is probably sure to put that grin on your face rather than the solemn appreciation for the Sebenza's craftsmanship.

My 1 cent.

Size and timing can make a difference in your choice. With the ZT limited editions you just don't know when they'll drop.

If you want a lot of choices in a 3" blade all you have then is the Small Sebenza 21.

At around 3.5"-3.6" you could go for a Large Sebenza 21/25 or ZT 0392 or even the recently released 0801CF and 0801BRWCF limited editions.

ZT 0454 kicks it up to a 4.1" blade but with CF subframe it only weighs 4.1 ounces.

I'd go for a sebenza 21, probably the small one because it's both beautiful as well as a classic. Kind of like the McGizmo Haiku in flashlights, just something you need to have if you're really, really serious about knives.

You can sign up to be notified when the 0454 becomes available for sale (http://zt.kaiusaltd.com/knives/knife/zt0454). There will probably be a pretty narrow window of opportunity to pick up the 0454 once it is available (without getting price-gouged on the secondary market), whereas the Sebenza is pretty readily available at any time.

And although I don't advocate buying a knife just to flip it for profit, if you do get the 0454 and just decide it isn't for you, you'll likely not have trouble selling and can buy a few Sebenzas with the proceeds from that.

I wish I could narrow down the 454 release to at least a fiscal quarter. Im not good at keeping money in my pocket :)

I have the 0454 and it is pure excellence. It puts a smile on my face every time I look at it. I do like my Sebenza too though!

Why not both?

It really depends what you want. I am a CRK fanboy, but I also know that CRK is not for everyone. If you want a superfast knife with the latest and greatest materials, get the ZT. If you want a knife that is near perfect in craftsmanship with excellent customer service and will easily last a lifetime, get a CRK. Plus, you can always have a CRK brought back to like new condition whenever you want (unless you have wood or exotic inlays).

My guess is that you will buy the ZT because it is new and awesome. Unfortunately, you will probably eventually sell it and still wonder if you should by a CRK. :)

Then again if I go sebenza, I have a million choices for specifically which size, blade shape, style I want.

True, but your hand size will cut that million in half...right off the bat.

I've had lots of ZT's and they are great.
I've had many Sebenzas, Zaans, and love 'em. I have to stick with CRK. I just have never found anything to beat it.

It sounds like you're leaning towards the ZT, but have money to spend right now. Why not buy a CRK now and see if it's for you. If it is, great. If it's not, you'll be able to sell it for almost what you paid for it and put that money towards the ZT when they become available.

Well I ended up going in a different direction. I was browsing the site where they ship knives for free, and discovered that they now had the next run of Northwoods Freemont Jacks in.

I decided to splurge, and I selected this specific one in premium mammoth ivory

I think I plan to hold off on CRK for now. I put myself on every kershaw/zt mailing list, and i will just wait for the next limited editions to come out. Thanks for weighing in everyone.

Congrats. Those traditional Northwoods Fremont Jack with sheepsfoot blade are great and it's good to see them in stock again. The variety in the Mammoth Ivory handles are amazing.
