Just a question or two:

Background: You've received a very nice khukuri from Uncle Bill and you decide to send along a bit extra as a performance bonus.

What do you consider to be an appropriate amount to send? Why?

That is a good question. What does one send to someone in Nepal? Especially when they make the toys that you love so much. I have often wnated to send them somthing, but have not known what to send...

Maybe this post will give me some ideas.

One customer sent a box of used clothes via surface direct to Gelbu about 4 months ago and it has never arrived. EMS which is very expensive is the only sure way to send merchandise. This is what we use exclusively. I think the first pound is $26 but the stuff gets there is good time, the parcel has a tracking number and delivery is guaranteed.

Most send money and that's the easiest and best. Anywhere from $25 to the $110 auctioned khukuri proceeds that went to Sanu.

This was a question that I asked myself after reading Bill's story of how he involved himself with the Kamis of BirGhorka. I have often wondered how to express my thanks for the wonderful things that I receive from them.

A number of companies that deal in firearms and the NRA instituted what was called a "Round Up" program, in which anything someone purchased could be automatically "rounded up" to the nearest dollar, with this amount being sent to the NRA as a contribution. With the volume of some these purchases, it was surprising how much was raised.

Now, since Bill charges neither tax or shipping on his products, I don't know how this could be applied. But it is just a suggestion on a purely voluntary procedure.

It works best on an individual voluntary basis. Some who buy from us simply cannot afford anything extra even though they appreciate the quality. It is unfair to these folks to add anything extra. BirGorkha provides a lot of perks for the kamis on their own so the bonuses that come from customers is icing on the cake.
