Friends,

I recently acquired a user Gentleman Jim. I sure like the ergos of the handle and the slim, pointy blade. For me, it does carry smaller than it is. Amazing. Anyway, he's got a couple boogered handle screws (burrs) and I've got new ones coming from EKI. So, any tips and/or gotchas to avoid when installing the new ones to get that factory fresh look?

This is my 2nd Emerson as I had a new mini CQC7 a couple years ago, but never liked it too well and sold it.

Don't over tighten the screws. Hand tight and just a hair beyon is fine.
Use blue threadlocker if you want, but less is more. Don't use the red one as it is designed for much larger applications.
I've never needed to readjust screws on my knives. The one I carry the most (ETAK-BT) has never been taken apart and has never had the handle screws loosen up.

Just hit them with 400 grit w/d sandpaper.
Use the correct size driver. So many just do not use the correct size screw driver.

The screwdriver size for the handle screws (except the pivot) is a #1 Philips. Keep in mind that not all #1 Philips are made to the same spec. Proper IMO will be a snug enough fit that the screwdriver will actually hold the screw and not have it fall off. I would gather what screwdrivers you have and use the tightest/best fitting one. You can always go to the hardware store with one of the screws to test fit what they have and buy the the one that works best.

Yes. The black will come off but that's ok, to me.
A green scrubby will make those screw heads matte.
