Hey guys, I have this book I read a while back, "The Brendan Voyage." about a crossing of the Atlantic in a hide boat like The Irish monks were suposed to have used. The crew built a real ox hide boat, and their experiances crossing the ocean was interesting from a survival standpoint.
There are some good passeges on food, and clothing for wet cold conditions, and they had a Faro islander with them who was very educational in surviving the ocean. Of great interest was the second half of their voyage from Iceland to North America, they used more traditional clothing of wool vs the synthetic stuff they used from Ireland to Iceland. Lots of bulky knit sweaters on view in the photos.
There's several sections of good color photos of the trip, and a mora number 1 is on view being worn by the Faro Island fisherman they recruited to be part of the crew.
I thought you guys here may like to pass the book around, and I'd like to give it to you all. Somebody tell me who wants it first, and I'll send it off.
Carl.
