What is a good book/dvd to explain the basics of knife sharpening? One that explains the in and outs of angles, steel, bevels, etc. Thx

+1. There's enough info on just this site to lead you to a level of sharpening expectation and obsession for which most mental health experts would prescribe a medication required by law to be kept in a safe :D

Murray Carter's Introduction to sharpening is what I've been watching. I thought I had sharp knives. After lurking on this site for a while I figured out that I didn't no squat and didn't really have sharp knives. Murray has a different approach and believes people should not use guides. I'm a long way from where I want to be; but, using his method I just sharpened my first edge that would whittle hair, no guides. If your like me and need to see it, have it explained, and then do it, he might be able to help you out. Good luck!
