by Amante P. Marinas, currently OOP published by Paladin Press. 262 pgs. 4 chapters, B&W photos. This book has stirred some controversy involving teaching credentials and credit as to what Porfiero Lanada's Arnis curriculum truly is. See Wiley's "Filipino Martial Culture" for the details.

The BD
Intro (History, origin, rules)
Basics (24 single stick defenses)
Hand Techniques (19 triangle footwork and striking 9 Rompido Triangle/10 Larga Mano Triangle)
Disarms (11 single stick disarms, basic positions and 2 basic motions)
Study Guide (checking, zero pressure, follow through)

After a short intro, Basics is crammed with basics dealing with hits from all angles is the main priority. Meets, passes, blocks, hits, thrusts, punyos, angling, punyo defenses are taught. Hand Techniques has a good breakdown on triangle footwork and striking but the reader should already know the jab, straight, backfist, knife edge chop. Disarms had 11 disarms, 9 of which were variations of one. Study Guide was as short as the intro. Overall, some parts are a little stylized (lots of squatting attacks and punyo defenses) but interesting. More for beginners and intermediate, it goes with well with most FMA books and videos.
