Let me introduce myself in this forum as well since it looks like I am going to be spending some time here!

In my youth in the 80s I had a substantial collection of knives. Diver's knives, Rambo style knives, a couple of the obligatory hollow handled survival knives and a bunch of others. As time went past, the collection dwindled to only one: a Glock field knife model 78 that I got in 1987.

This knife has been a constant companion years later. On long trips it was either in my bike's topbox or under my car's seat. A few weeks ago I ordered the CRKT FTWS and this seemed to kick start the whole knife fascination again.

I really like the whole bushcraft / camp knife idea and decided that my next knife had to be something utilitarian in that category. I stay in a town about 30km from the Kruger Park in South Africa - an ideal area to use a knife like this. Of course the BK2 came up in just about every internet search that I did.

I looked at the BK7 and BK9 as well, but finally decided on the Bk2 because of the problems with this knife: why? Everyone seems to dump the standard scales and sheath and then do something unique from there.

Correct my if I am wrong, but it seems that the Bk2 is probably the MOST modded and most often customized knife out there. I like the size and weight. I like the blade geometry. 1/4 Inch thick! I NEED ONE!

To start with I am looking forward to stripping the knife and making a pair of African Hardwood scales for it, followed by a nice leather sheath.

When I think back to the collection of my childhood, my favourite knife was a big dramatic diver's knife. It was the 'pride' of my collection.

BUT

The knife that I used by far the most was a butt-ugly knife that I got from a friend. It was a blade heavy 6 inch thing with a drop point and a black plastic handle. It came in a leather sheath that looks like the one used by the Ray Mears knife. It had "Jumbo" printed on it somewhere. Damn I miss this knife and I am sorry it's gone! I used it to chop stuff. I used it to dig holes. I used it for everything....

This is what I want, and what I am sure I will find in the BK2....

The only problem is that the other buggers in this country seems to have the same idea and nobody I contacted has any stock.

Welcome! Our asylum is growing by the day! Enjoy the koolaid and welcome back to the addiction!

Welcome to the forum. The BK2 is a hell of a nice knife.

Post up some pictures of your area please! I love South Africa! I was supposed to go there for work but the plans fell through :(

I placed an order and paid on Monday last week...

Apparently the knife is now at the online shop's international office somewhere in the Washington area waiting to get on a plane at Dulles.
