Fellers, Bawanna's been bugging me to no end to put some photos up of the gun which is my last. Retirement has set in and I'm happily falling down a spiral. This rifle is a hodge-podge of parts, schools, and eras. It is comprised of many things I just wanted to experiment with, try out, or simply do. Built it for me, so why not? I've been a Mason for many years and decided early on that this gun was to be Masonicly themed. Everything on this gun was made by me or another Master Mason. Anyway, here are a very few photos of #400.2 - Copy.JPG 3.JPG 7f.JPG 9b.JPG 28.JPG 35.JPG 44.JPG 53.JPG DSC06610.JPG DSC06613 - Copy.JPG

Glad my bugging finely paid off. That thing is beyond remarkable. To be able to say I made this thing from scratch and it actually shoots and shoots well and looks as gorgeous as it does, can't be a feather big enough to hang in your cap.

That Tiger Maple and the brass all SINGS very loudly. And all done the old fashioned correct way too.

I'm speechless every time I see this thing.

That's so impressive on it's own, and then we learn that the barrel was forged by Bookie from the rim of an old wagon wheel, drilled and rifled by hand, and every step in the rifle's creation was done using hand tools only (no power tools). "Wow" doesn't begin to describe it.

Amazing, Unbelievable is an understatement for that superb creation. You sir are an artist to say the least. I am a Mason as well and I love everything you did to it. What a way to retire and gift yourself. I have a few BP rifles and love the primitive style smoke poles. I just was wiping them down the other day and now I have to go heat them up after seeing this beauty. Thanks for the amazing pics.

Here are photos of my reamer & a new wooden rifling bench.Copy (2) of Finished Bench 2 .jpg Copy-of-New-Rifler-2.jpg DSC05349.JPG 54.JPG One of barrel making showing a piece of wagon wheel rim getting heated. Plus, one for Pugs--recognize this chair?

Jeez...just speechless. Masterful piece, Bookie! Can't say much more, I'm in just awe.

Good work. True work. I really truly love it. Thanks so much for working your art to bring that thing into the world. I hope to come by the corn patch some day, maybe that will be there to ogle ;)

To answer an inquiry: What are the two large brass inlays on the side of the butt? The Holy Bible and an old fashioned level used for construction. Everyone should "meet on the level", you know. (Engraving with a broken 3 square file leaves a little to be desired and engraving is not one of my strong points.)

You save all your points for the pins you use on all our dolls. Everybody knows that.

I wasn't going to comment on the engraving seeing as you are 100x better at everything than me. You could probably do really well with a sharp graver, in short order.

Thats beyond words alright! Well done! Im sure you got to master lots of different arts to make a rifle like that. Equally cool is the tools made to make the parts and rifle the barrel etc. Do you still shoot it? I could chip you a new flint but thats about it! Well done doc and well done Bawanna for finally getting him to post! Im blown away!

Bookie went to California for the week, back Friday I think.
He just finished that thing a few months back. Told me it's about 40 caliber and sweet to shoot. Nice trigger and no recoil, easy shooting even for a flintlock.
Sure like to look that over in person.

He didn't say but I'm assuming he's looking for gold again. So streams, mountains, and shiny stuff in the bottom of that pan.
You got any of that in Frisco? I don't want you to get a phobia and be curled up on the kitchen floor in a fatal position sucking your thumb, I mean that's where I live but I don't think it's your style, your welcome to join me if you think it will help.
